Knowing what questions to ask when evaluating facilities is so very important. Here are some critical ones to ask.
Do the facility employees show interest in your relative’s care needs or are they acting as sales representatives?
How many caregivers work each shift?
Ask what if questions. What if your relative can no longer walk without assistance, can no longer control bodily functions, or can no longer pay for care with private funds?
Ask to see the results of the last state survey, which should be on file?
Have you reviewed the public disclosure files for any substantiated complaints of abuse or neglect?
Is the facility operator able to show you positive reference letters from the relatives of former or current residents?
Does the person licensed to operate the home reside in the home?
If the owner does not reside in the home, who does?
How long has the person been the caregiver in this home?
How many other caregivers have been employed within the last year?
